The game felt really time consuming and not in a very satisfying way. CyberConnect2 are great at making awesome looking games with mediocre gameplay (see Asura's Wrath). There are minigames as well but all they managed to do is act as a minor diversion from the repetitiveness in flying from point A to point B.ĭespite these shortcomings, I still enjoyed it for the eye candy and to relive the story again. There are sidequests that attempt to break the monotony but the sidequests themselves make the entire game feel like you're in a really crappy MMO world, since they're just timewasters (FAR too many fetchquests) that add nothing to the story or lore of the DBZ world/characters. There's zero reason to fight generic mooks and you'll find yourself avoiding fights altogether after a while just to hurry and get on with the story. There's little variety in combat between all the characters you use and most enemies can be beaten with the same tactics, with only a couple boss fights providing slight challenge despite still not being THAT difficult. Gameplay, however, is extremely mediocre. ![]() The game is a great way for newcomers to the anime to get up to speed on the characters, story, and what made DBZ the phenomenon it is today. Granted, I never watched through the American dub of DBZ, having had access to subbed tapes of DBZ here in NYC in the late 90's. It does a great job at retelling the story, although a lot of important scenes are left out and many scenes are censored compared to the original anime. I popped the platinum trophy for the game yesterday and here's my (unpopular) opinion of the game as a whole. Does it include the DLC? That would be a nice bonus. Kicking an enemy through a mountain is very fun, the rare moments where you match energy blasts, and the tiny cut scenes mid-battle when you're fully powered up feel awesome.Īt the end of the day, I felt like $20 was fair, especially given the repetitive nature of the game and the huge gaps in the cell/buu sagas. While it's more of a beatemup vs a true fighting game, there are moments where it really feels like DBZ. You can spend a lot of time flying around doing side quests and grinding, and hearing Gohan give opinions on apples gets tiring.Ĭombat is legitimately fun. I wish they had included more on both of those stories, but there ya go. ![]() That being said, they skimp on both the Cell and Buu sagas, but they stick to the main fights/points. I just finished it on PC, so I'll weigh in.ĭo you want to play through the main sagas? Then this game is it.
